The consultant assesses your risk and history, examines the mole with dermoscopy, and explains whether monitoring, mapping or biopsy is the right course. Any biopsy or removal is done under local anaesthetic. As a guide, procedure fees including hospital fees start from £350 for shave excision, curettage and cautery, £500 for cyst removal, and £775 for skin cancer excision including histology. Your consultant confirms all fees before anything goes ahead.

Mole checks and biopsies take place at Nuffield Health Haywards Heath, Burrell Road (RH16 1UD), about four miles from Burgess Hill, and the clinic sees patients aged 16 and over. Full-body mole mapping is available at our Matlock Road clinic in Brighton.

Once a mole or sample has been removed, it is sent for histopathology, where it is examined under a microscope to give a definite diagnosis. This is the most reliable way to confirm or rule out skin cancer.
