Mole Checks and Surveillance for Eastbourne Patients

Whole-body mapping with the ATBM Fotofinder records a detailed baseline of your skin. At each follow-up the machine compares every lesion against the last visit, ringing unchanged moles in white, changing ones in yellow and new ones in red, so the consultant can focus on what has actually moved.

Single suspicious moles can also be checked on their own, with close-up dermoscopy to examine anything of concern.

The first visit covers a full risk assessment and a head-to-toe examination. Follow-up scans are more focused, concentrating on the lesions that have changed since last time.

Suspicious moles can be biopsied or removed on site under local anaesthetic and sent for histology. As a guide, procedure fees including hospital fees start from £350 for shave excision, curettage and cautery, £500 for cyst removal, and £775 for skin cancer excision including histology. Your consultant confirms all fees before anything goes ahead.

Surveillance is carried out by consultants with skin cancer expertise, including Dr Paul Farrant, Dr Pallavi Gupta and Dr Gemma Springgay. No referral is needed.

Whole-body mole mapping and surveillance take place at our Matlock Road clinic, 10b Matlock Road (BN1 5BF), which houses the ATBM Fotofinder. Standard mole checks are also available at Nuffield Health Brighton, Warren Road (BN2 6DX). Both are about a forty-minute drive from Eastbourne.

At a repeat mapping scan the system compares every lesion against your previous visit. Unchanged moles are ringed in white, changing ones in yellow and new ones in red, and the unchanged moles can be set aside so the consultant concentrates on what has actually moved.

This makes surveillance both thorough and focused, and means genuine changes are far less likely to be missed between visits.
